OtoPro Custom Filtered Plugs
OtoPro Custom Filtered Plugs
Product Description
Product Description
OtoPro Custom Filtered Plugs are built from impressions of your individual ear canals and paired with a filter system tuned for what you do. The plug geometry matches your anatomy, which is what makes the seal dependable and the protection rating real. Filtered means selective: loud impulse and continuous noise get clipped at safe levels, while speech, environmental cues, and the sounds you need to stay aware of pass through with minimal muffling. Every filter is ventilated to keep the ear canal cool during long sessions and to reduce the occlusion effect that makes your own voice sound boomy in your head.
The four-filter system
The same custom shell takes on different acoustic behavior depending on which filter is installed. Filters are interchangeable, so the protection can adapt as your environment changes.
Impulse filters are designed for sudden, very loud sound events. ANSI IPIL certified for impulse noise up to 166 dB, with 33 dB of attenuation at peak and only 5 dB NRR for soft sounds. Originally developed for military use and worn by NATO soldiers. The low NRR is intentional: speech, environmental cues, and game movement remain audible, while gunfire is clipped instantaneously. Recommended for dental offices, veterinary clinics, dog kennels, dog trainers, construction, landscaping, and hunting and shooting.
Fidelity filters are tuned for environments where sound quality matters as much as protection. Designed with a flat 17 dB of attenuation across the frequency range, from bass to treble. The result is a uniform reduction in volume rather than the muffled, muddied sound that traditional earplugs produce by attenuating frequencies unevenly. Music keeps its detail. Speech stays intelligible. Recommended for concert-goers, musicians, movie theater-goers, and people with hypersensitivity to everyday sound.
Industrial filters are built for sustained, continuous noise. Roughly 23 to 26 dB of attenuation across the frequency range (SNR 26), tuned to remove damaging high-frequency content while keeping speech intelligible enough for communication on the floor. Recommended for factory work, heavy machinery, and farm equipment.
LifeFlight filters are tuned for the acoustic environment of helicopter cabins and helipads. Strong attenuation in the low frequencies where rotor blades produce their sustained noise, with a deliberate dip at the speech frequencies so communication remains intelligible. Pressure regulation properties help during rapid altitude changes. Recommended for LifeFlight first responder teams and other helicopter-based operations.
Custom fit and finish
Every set is built from impressions taken by a credentialed provider in our network of more than 450 clinics across the United States, Canada, and abroad. We do not use mail-in kits or accept self-sourced impressions. The provider physically evaluates the ears, takes the impressions, and identifies anatomy or medical issues that change which products will work. That clinical step is what separates a custom plug that protects from one that looks the part.
You choose between two fit styles based on what you need physically from the plug. Full Shell fills more of the outer ear and provides a more secure hold during head movement, which matters when mounting a firearm, working construction, or any activity involving significant motion. Some professional musicians also prefer Full Shell for their Fidelity-filtered plugs because the look and feel mirror the in-ear monitors they wear onstage. Canal Size is lower-profile and more discreet, often preferred by concert-goers, dental and clinical professionals, and others who want the plug to be less visible. Either fit works with any filter type.
You also choose from eighteen color options. Each set ships with a carrying case, a lanyard, and the filters for the use case you have selected. Filters can be swapped or upgraded at any time without remaking the shell.
Process
If you already have impressions on file with us, ordering takes minutes. If not, complete checkout and we will pair you with a provider in our network for the impressions appointment. Returning customers can use existing digital impressions to reorder or change filter types without a new fitting visit.

How do I choose between Canal Size and Full Shell?
How do I choose between Canal Size and Full Shell?
Full Shell fills more of the outer ear and gives a more secure hold during head movement; better for shooting, construction, and any activity involving significant motion. Canal Size sits deeper in the ear canal and is lower-profile and more discreet; better for concert-goers, dental and clinical professionals, and anyone who wants the plug to be less visible. Either fit works with any filter type. If you are unsure, your provider can recommend the right fit at your impressions appointment.
Can I change filter types later?
Can I change filter types later?
Yes. The custom shell is the same regardless of which filter is installed; filters are interchangeable and sold a la carte. A shooter who picks up live music as a hobby can add a pair of Fidelity filters to the same plugs. A construction worker who adds helicopter shifts can add LifeFlight filters. Filters can be swapped or upgraded at any time without remaking the shell.
